To commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Japanese Canadian internment, and Canada’s 150th birthday, the Village of New Denver is offering all residents free season’s passes to the Nikkei Internment Memorial Centre.  Property owners will receive their pass in their tax notice – any resident who has not received a pass is invited to contact the Village Office to arrange delivery.

A public presentation about future plans for Knox Hall and Bosun Hall is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6th at the Knox Hall.  Community members are invited to come and hear about Council’s proposed course of action regarding these facilities, and share their thoughts with Council.

The Village of New Denver has secured funding to hire summer students to fill Collections Assistant positions at the Nikkei Internment Memorial Centre.  Position descriptions and eligibility criteria are available upon request from the Village Office.  Interested individuals should submit a resume and cover letter to the attention of Bruce Woodbury, CAO.

poster_Cup half full Aging Well May 2017 Let’s Talk about “Aging Well” in New Denver

Please join the community discussion and share your ideas about how to age well in New Denver and the surrounding communities. Researchers from the University of Victoria are working in partnership with Interior Health, and with municipal and health leaders from your local communities to gather your thoughts on aging well.

The events will be held on Tuesday, May 16th at either 1:00-4:00 pm, or 6:00-9:00 pm at Knox Hall in New Denver. A third drop-in session will be held in Knox Hall on Wednesday May 17th from 9:30-11:30 am. Light refreshments will be served.


 

Outdoor Burning Reminder

Residents of New Denver are reminded that outdoor burning is regulated within the Village of New Denver.  Permits are required for all outdoor fires except cooking fires contained within a barbecue pit or fire pit having a surface area not greater than four (4) square feet; or within a manufactured gas, coal or electric barbecue.

Burning permits are available from April 1st to May 15th and from September 30th to November 15th – for more information please contact the Village Office, weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.  Council thanks all residents for their cooperation.

MyHealthPortal is coming to New Denver

PSA_KB myhealthportal_Page_1MyHealthPortal provides patients 24-hour access to their health information via their smart phone, tablet or computer through a secure  portal from the Interior Health website. Features include the ability to view their Interior Health lab results, diagnostic imaging reports (such as X-rays, scans and ultrasound), certain upcoming appointments, recent hospital visit history, and the opportunity to update address and phone number information.

To sign up, patients must present to the project team in person with legal photo identification and their Care Card or B.C. Services Card in order to verify their identity. They will be given a login username and password that they will be able to use on their own device—home computer, tablet or smart phone. Then they simply go to the MyHealthPortal page on Interior Health’s web site at www.interiorhealth.ca/MyHealthPortal to login.

The project team will be in the Slocan Community Health Centre in New Denver from May 2 to May 4 to enrol interested patients and visitors. Please see media release for more information.

Galena Trail Closure

A section of the Galena Trail has been closed due to a slide. The trail is closed from Three Forks to the cable car. The RDCK estimates it could take up to a week to reopen that section of the trail.  A section of the trail is open from New Denver to Denver Canyon. For up-to-date information, please go to http://www.rdck.ca.

Just a reminder of the following statutory holidays in April.

The Village Office will be closed Good Friday, April 14 and Easter Monday, April 17.

Commercial garbage collection will take place on Thursday, April 13 in lieu of Friday, April 14.
