Discover an industrious and progressive rural village, New Denver, BC, Canada. Home to 600 citizens, this active community is situated on the beautiful Slocan Lake, within the Selkirk Mountain Range, in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia. Visitors to our village are in awe of the scenic beauty with the rugged mountains and the thirty kilometre long lake. Scuba divers claim that this is one of the clearest and cleanest lakes in Southern BC. with many historical artifacts easily accessable. All manner of water sports include kayaking, canoeing, sailing, fishing, water skiing and swimming. In the winter, down hill, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling are the outdoor sports of choice. Within the village two areas have been set aside to commemorate the internment of the Japanese and Japanese-Canadians during WW11. Several religious denominations are available for worship. The village has an attractive mix of businesses, where most all services and merchandise can be purchased. Architecture of various designs and ages are worthy of touring. The local high school supports grades K-12. There is a local hospital for long term and intermediate care, with an emergency suite which is open on a twenty four hour basis. Three medical practitioners practise here. New Denver is one of the few communities that subscribes to the provincial 911 Emergency system.
