Update on Search for Missing Youth May 12, 2014

May 12, 2014  |  Press Release, Public Notices

The RCMP is continuing their search for the three youths who were in a canoe that overturned on Slocan Lake, Saturday May 10th. An RCMP helicopter conducted an aerial search of the lake and shoreline where the youths were last seen, unfortunately this was unsuccessful. At approximately 9:00 AM two RCMP dive boats were launched and have been conducting an underwater search at this time. As reported in previous reports the water is extremely cold. The team has confirmed the lake temperature to be 34 degrees Fahrenheit, the search will continue this afternoon. It has been learned the depth of the lake where the canoe was located is approximately 480 ft making any recovery more difficult. At this point due to the circumstances involved, cold water, distance from shore, the depth of the lake and length of time since they were last seen this has now being considered a recovery mission. An additional news release will be sent at the end of the days search.
