New Denver Receives Bear Smart Designation

June 11, 2015  |  Community Events, Council Business

Members of New Denver Bear Smart, the B.C. Conservation Officer Service and Village of New Denver governance will gather  to celebrate New Denver’s official status as a bear smart city.  The Village of New Denver is the Province of British of Columbia’s 7th community to receive Bear Smart designation.  The designation is granted to the Village by the Ministry of Environment’s conservation officer service.

The goal of the bear smart program is to reduce the number of encounters residents have with bears, and in turn the number of bears that need to be destroyed by conservation officers due to unsafe interactions between bears and humans.
The award will be presented to Village officials at a ceremony held on Friday June 26th at 10:30am Knox Hall, New Denver (521 6th ave)
Residents are welcome to attend and there will be cake and refreshments.
