Highway 31A Paving

A major resurfacing project is taking place just outside of New Denver this summer. This work is expected to begin approximately July 21 and continue through to mid- to late-September, 2024.

13 kilometers of Highway 31A will be repaved, from just east of New Denver to Fish Lake. This is a conventional paving project by the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. Although outside of the Village of New Denver, this work will have impacts on travel to and from the community.

Travelers should expect delays. Barriers will be removed at times (next to steep drops!), replaced with temporary cones and barrels. Be sure to drive safely, follow all construction signs and speed limits, give plenty of space to traffic control personnel, and expect to give yourself extra time to reach your destination when travelling this route during construction.

A warning to motorcycle riders – ride carefully on grooved pavement and watch for loose gravel. Roads will be swept, but loose gravel is unavoidable and can be hazardous to riders. Surfacing may not be suited to cyclists on this popular bike route while repaving is underway.
