UPDATE: Public Parking in the area east of New Market Foods will remain closed through to early June. Please navigate the area with caution! This is a construction zone. Your patience is important while this work is underway. If you can park across 6th Avenue and walk to the grocery store, please do. Leaving this area closed now will allow the work to be completed much faster overall. |
The Kootenay Street Right of Way, north of 6th Avenue (Highway 31A) – providing access to customer parking at New Market Foods – will be affected by construction beginning Thursday, May 4. At times, access will be fully blocked. It is essential that all members of the public follow signage and not pass any barriers. Please be patient and understanding while the work is underway.
Parking on the boulevard directly in front of New Market Foods will be designated for accessible parking only when customer parking to the east of the building is closed. Please be respectful and do not park in this area unless necessary. Consider leaving all boulevard parking immediately outside of New Market Foods available for those who need it most (limited mobility, large grocery loads, etc.). It is also essential that you do not block the New Market Foods loading zone.
The Village of New Denver has contracted Kays Contracting to complete these infrastructure improvements in the 500 Block of 6th Avenue. This is part of New Denver’s ‘Core Pedestrian Connections’ Active Transportation project. You may have seen signage on-site, near New Market Foods, outlining the project, and you can find a link to a link to a basic overview of the design HERE. The gravel trail and covered stairs on the hillside in the Kootenay Street Right of Way (between New Market Foods & the school) are also part of the Core Pedestrian Connections project.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Village Office directly. As always, it is essential to be respectful of workers; see https://newdenver.ca/treatment-of-workers/.
