It gives us great pleasure to welcome Dr. Nicola to our community and health centre. Dr. Nicola received the permanent residency status needed to begin employment in Canada and will soon be working at Slocan Community Health Centre. Dr. Nicola will be the fourth doctor for the clinic and emergency room filling the last outstanding doctor vacancy. Once she receives her Provisional License from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC, she will be able to start practicing which will help fill a need in our greater Slocan Valley community and offer relief to the three physicians who have been working tirelessly to accommodate the physician/nurse practitioner vacancies over the past several years. As always a huge thank you to all health care workers who are unwaveringly dedicated to their careers offering high level health care to our rural communities.
A very big thank you to our MP Richard Canning, MLA Katrina Conroy, and Minister Dix’s office, as well as to the BCRHN, for all the help they provided on Dr.Nicola’s and our behalf. It is out of genuine compassion for the safety and well being of our community members that we thank you.
I would also like to thank Colin Moss and Margaret Scaia for hours of tireless work. As well as Area H Walter Popoff, Villages of Slocan and Silverton and to you, the community, for all the work and emails that were sent in support; together we demonstrated the need and urgency of this situation. The four doctors will be working in pairs which will allow for some work-life balance and will better serve the greater community.
We are hopeful to have more good news to announce for Slocan Community Health Centre as we work with IH, the Ministry and the BC Nurses Union to bring us back to 24/7. Fingers crossed for a safer community for all that live and play here.
Thank you again New Denver and the greater community.
