November 26th, 2025 – Ministry of Environment and Parks Valhalla Post-Wildfire Recovery Update
Following the 2024 wildfires in Valhalla Park, BC Parks has been working with partners to rehabilitate affected areas. We are currently completing Phase 1 of an ongoing multi-phased recovery plan, directed towards the campgrounds, trails and day use areas along Slocan Lake.
WORK PROGRESS
Finalizing Phase 1
- Pile burning in the areas surrounding Cove Creek, Cory’s Ranch and Sandy Point sites could begin as early as November 26, 2025 and will be ongoing. The exact timing of these activities will depend on weather and site conditions. Burning will only proceed when conditions are safe to do so. Smoke may be visible from the Villages of New Denver, Silverton, Slocan and surrounding areas, and to motorists travelling along Highway 6.
Beginning of Phase 2
- BC Parks is preparing for archaeological impact assessments at Wee Sandy Creek, Sharp Creek and Nemo Creek sites. We anticipate that updates to this process will be available in the spring of 2026.
UPDATE ON CLOSURES
- Open Areas: Sandy Point, Cory’s Ranch, Cove Creek, Mossy Point, Ben Browns and Evans Creek. The trail from Evan’s Creek Campsite to Beatrice Lake is open, however there are a considerable number of fallen trees across sections of the route.
- Closed Areas: Slocan-Evans Trail, Wee Sandy Creek, Sharp Creek and Nemo Creek.
REMINDER ON HAZARDS
Please be advised that there are significant post-wildfire risks along the lakeshore of Valhalla Park including danger trees and overhead hazards, terrain instability, concealed ash pits, damaged trail surfaces, and missing signage. Windy days, precipitation and snow melt can increase these hazards. Please take caution—and respect the closures.
