The next general local election will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
The 2026 general local election will fill the offices of Mayor and Councillor for the Village of New Denver. Voting will be held for any office where more candidates are nominated than positions available; otherwise, the successful candidate or candidates will be elected by acclamation. Information about the election of School District No. 10 trustees is available from School District No. 10.

Special Election Office Hours
The Village Office will remain open until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, for the receipt of nomination documents.
Completed nomination documents must be received by the Chief Election Officer or a designated election official no later than 4:00 p.m. Documents received after the deadline cannot be accepted, except where the statutory additional nomination period applies.

These dates are established by the Local Government Act and the Elections BC 2026 general local election calendar. The nomination period runs from 9:00 a.m. on September 1 to 4:00 p.m. on September 11. A nomination challenge must be filed by 4:00 p.m. on the fourth day after nominations close.

The Village’s current election bylaw provides for one required advance voting opportunity on the tenth day before General Voting Day. Provincial legislation permits municipalities with populations of 5,000 or less to dispense with the second required advance opportunity by bylaw.

If an election by voting is required, advance voting and General Voting Day voting will take place at Knox Hall.

Mail Ballot Voting
Mail ballot voting will be available for the 2026 general local election. Information about how to apply, application deadlines, and the procedures for receiving and returning a mail ballot package will be posted on this page.
To be counted, a completed mail ballot package must be received at the address printed on the outer return envelope or at an authorized drop-off location before 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026. A postmark does not establish timely receipt. The elector is responsible for ensuring that the completed package is received before the deadline.
Who Can Vote?
To vote as a resident elector, you must be registered and qualified when you vote.
You may register as a resident elector if, on the day you register, you:
- are 18 years of age or older, or will be 18 by General Voting Day;
- are a Canadian citizen;
- have been a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before registering;
- are a resident of the Village of New Denver; and
- are not disqualified from voting under the Local Government Act or another enactment.
You do not need to own property to vote as a resident elector. Renters who meet the eligibility requirements may vote. There is no requirement for a resident elector to have lived in New Denver for 30 days.
Non-Resident Property Electors
You may qualify to vote as a non-resident property elector if you:
- are not eligible to register as a resident elector of New Denver;
- are a Canadian citizen;
- are at least 18 years old, or will be 18 by General Voting Day;
- have lived in British Columbia for at least six months;
- have been a registered owner of property in the Village for at least 30 days before registering;
- are not disqualified from voting; and
- meet the statutory requirements respecting individual ownership and property held in trust.
Only one registered owner may vote in relation to a property. If there is more than one owner, the person registering must have the written consent of enough other owners to constitute a majority.
A person may register in relation to only one property in the Village. Corporations cannot vote or appoint someone to vote on their behalf.
Contact the Election Office before voting to confirm identification and proof-of-ownership requirements and to obtain a consent form, if required.
Registering to Vote and Identification
The Village uses the Provincial Voters List as its register of resident electors.
Electors who are not already registered may register when voting. A resident elector registering at a voting place must provide:
- two documents that establish identity and place of residence, with at least one containing the elector’s signature; or
- two documents that establish identity, with at least one containing the elector’s signature, and make a solemn declaration about their place of residence.
Non-resident property electors must provide two documents establishing identity, at least one of which contains a signature, together with satisfactory evidence of property ownership and any required consent from the other owners.
Bringing identification is recommended even when you believe that your name is already on the voters list.
Thinking About Running for Council?
A person is generally qualified to be nominated for, elected to and hold local government office if the person:
- is 18 years of age or older, or will be 18 by General Voting Day;
- is a Canadian citizen;
- has been a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before submitting the nomination; and
- is not disqualified from holding local government office.
A candidate does not have to live in New Denver or own property in New Denver.
Candidate nomination packages will be available from the Village Office and posted on this page before the nomination period begins.

Candidates and financial agents are responsible for complying with the campaign financing, election advertising and disclosure requirements administered by Elections BC. The Village administers voting, nominations, counting and local election results; Elections BC administers campaign financing and election advertising rules.
Submitting Nomination Documents
Completed nomination documents may be submitted:
- in person at the Village Office;
- by mail or courier; or
- by fax to 250-358-7251; or
- by email to elections@newdenver.ca.
Email submissions must be received in the designated election inbox no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026. Documents should be submitted as a complete and readable PDF and must include all required signatures and declarations.
The Chief Election Officer will acknowledge receipt of an emailed submission. An acknowledgement confirms receipt only and does not confirm that the nomination documents are complete or valid. Any deficiencies must be corrected before the nomination deadline.
The person being nominated is responsible for ensuring that the complete nomination package is received before the deadline.

Accessible Voting
The Voting Place at Knox Hall has many accessible features for people with physical disabilities or impaired mobility.
Contact the Election Office as early as possible if you require:
- information in an alternate or accessible format;
- assistance entering or using a voting place;
- assistance marking a ballot;
- communication assistance; or
- information about mail ballot voting.
The Village’s Accessibility Plan commits the Village to identifying, removing and preventing barriers in its facilities and services and states that information is available in an accessible format on request.
