Exploring a Potential Community Forest
The Village of New Denver is considering whether to apply to the Province of British Columbia for a Community Forest Agreement.
No application has been submitted, no agreement has been approved, and no authority to harvest timber has been granted.
Community Input
The Village is mailing a survey to obtain preliminary feedback on whether the project should continue and what opportunities, concerns and information needs should be considered.
The survey is not a referendum or approval of a Community Forest Agreement. Responses will be summarized and provided to Council to inform its consideration of the next steps.

Council has identified potential opportunities related to:
- wildfire-risk reduction;
- local forestry employment and contracting;
- community revenue; and
- greater local involvement in forest management.
These are potential objectives only. No business plan, management plan, revenue projection or timber-supply analysis has been completed.
Current status
The project is at an early stage. A preliminary area of interest has been discussed, generally extending from north of Silverton toward Hills.

At this time:
- no management or harvesting plan has been prepared;
- no governance structure has been selected;
- no financial or operational analysis has been completed;
- existing licences, tenures and land uses have not been fully assessed; and
- the Province has not approved an area or application.
Next steps
Depending on Council’s direction, further work may include feasibility analysis, mapping, discussions with the Province and existing tenure holders, development of governance and management options, and additional public engagement.
Any Community Forest Agreement application would be subject to provincial review and approval.
