KNOX HALL BUILT HERITAGE GRANT APPROVED

The Village of New Denver has been given grant funding of $210,694 through the Columbia Basin Trust’s Built Heritage Program to commence improvements on the Knox Hall. The Knox Hall Revitalization Project will provide funds to restore many heritage features and upgrade systems throughout the building to improve its functionality for end users.  Preliminary planning for the project has begun and the Village will contact all renters affected by the project when further information is available.  The hall will remain open until further notice.

2017 CARIP Report

The 2017 CARIP Report is now available for viewing.  The Climate Action Revenue Incentive Program (CARIP) is a conditional grant program that provides funding to BC Climate Action Charter (Charter) signatories equivalent to one hundred percent of the carbon taxes they pay directly.  This funding supports local governments in their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and move forward on achieving their Charter goals. Residents of the Village of New Denver are reminded that 2018 Property Taxes have been mailed out. Property Tax Payments are due on or before Monday, July 16, 2018.  Please contact the office if you have not received your notice by June 11th, 2018.

Information about the provincial Home Owner Grant programs, Property Tax Deferment programs, and the general property taxation process are available from the Village Office or on our website: http://newdenver.ca/property-tax-information/.

SPRINKLING RESTRICTIONS

Level 1 Sprinkling Restrictions: No sprinkling between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

OUTDOOR BURNING REMINDER

Residents of New Denver are reminded that outdoor burning is regulated within the Village of New Denver.  Outdoor fires contained within a barbecue pit or fire pit having a surface area not greater than four (4) square feet; or within a manufactured gas, coal or electric barbecue are permitted unless a campfire ban is in effect.  Other open burning is only permitted during designated periods and does require a free permit from the Village – the next open burning period starts September 30th.  Council thanks all residents for their cooperation.

RISING LAKE LEVELS

With the arrival of warmer weather Slocan Lake water levels are on the rise.  Residents are asked to ensure that any canoes, kayaks or other watercraft left at the shore are securely tied up.  Please consider marking your boat with your contact information to assist emergency personnel in the event that it floats off – decals are available from the Village Office.

NIMC OPEN FOR THE SEASON

As of May 1st, the Nikkei Internment Memorial Centre is open daily from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  Residents who would like to visit can obtain a free pass from the Village Office.

SPRING STREET CLEANUP

With the arrival of spring, the Village of New Denver public works crew will be performing their usual seasonal cleanup of streets and boulevards within the Village.  Raking and repairing damage to boulevards caused by snow removal equipment is already underway.  Street sweeping to remove excess gravel from paved surfaces requires several days of dry weather in order for the equipment to operate effectively and will take place as soon as the weather permits.
