General Information

Garbage Collection:  Utility billings and garbage tags are mailed to property owners at the start of the year.  Residential garbage collection takes place on Tuesdays, beginning at 8:00 a.m.   Residents are reminded that bags are not to be placed curbside before 6:00 a.m. on collection day.  All bags must be tagged for pickup – additional tags can be purchased from the Village Office for $3.50 each.

Watering Restrictions: The level of sprinkling restriction in effect at a current time will be set by the Village’s CAO in response to weather conditions, consumption patterns and other relevant considerations. Please check with the Village website or office for the most up to date information.
The following levels of sprinkling restriction are established:

Level 1 No sprinkling between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Level 2 ·  No sprinkling between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

·  Odd-numbered properties sprinkle only on odd-numbered days of the month

·  Even-numbered properties sprinkle only on even-numbered days of the month

Level 3 No sprinkler use, but hand watering and soaker hose use is permitted

Dog Licences:  Annual dog licences are required and can be obtained from the Village Office.

Please note that the annual Dog Licence Fee for the year is as follows:

  • Neutered Male (certificate required) $25.00*
  • Spayed Female (certificate required) $25.00*
  • Male                                                   $50.00*
  • Female                                               $50.00*

*A $15.00 discount applies if licence is purchased before February 15th or within 30 days of obtaining dog. An off-leash area for dogs is located along the dike on the south side of Carpenter Creek – all dogs must be leashed when walking in other areas.  Owners are responsible for removing dog waste from public property – dog waste disposal bags are provided in dispensers located around the community.

Building Permits:  Permits are required for most new construction and alterations to or demolition of existing structures.  Please contact the Village Office to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.

Burning Permits:  Residents of New Denver are reminded that outdoor burning is regulated within the Village of New Denver.  Permits are required for all outdoor fires except cooking fires contained within a barbecue pit or fire pit having a surface area not greater than four (4) square feet; or within a manufactured gas, coal or electric barbecue.   The permit is free and is limited to April 1st to May 15th and from September 30th to November 15th ). Permit applications can be made at the Village office.

Recycling Facilities:  Recycling bins are located at the intersection of Kootenay Street and Slocan Avenue.  Please direct inquiries about recycling to the Regional District of Central Kootenay at 1-800-268-7325.

Council Meetings

The Mayor and Council of the Village of New Denver conduct their business at regularly scheduled Council Meetings, held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month, at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers (115 Slocan Avenue, behind the Village Office).

If you want to appear as a delegation at a Council Meeting or have an item placed on the agenda for Council’s consideration, please contact the Village Office for procedural advice.  For inclusion on the agenda, written submissions must be received by the Village Office no later than 4:00 p.m. on the Thursday before the Council Meeting.  Agendas packages are posted for public viewing at the Village Office  by 4:00 p.m. on the Friday before the Council Meeting.  Agendas and minutes can also be found here once they are adopted by Council.
