Cleaner – Village Properties

The Village is seeking a permanent, part time cleaner. The schedule is flexible, averaging approximately 10 hours per week during winter and 15 hours during summer. It involves cleaning the municipal office, fire hall meeting room, library, and Knox Hall once a week.  It also requires vault toilet cleaning on the weekend. Details are available HERE.

Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)

The Village of New Denver, situated on the eastern shore of beautiful Slocan Lake and surrounded by the tall peaks of the Selkirk Mountain range, is located in the West Kootenay region of BC. It is home to over 550 full-time residents and many additional seasonal residents. The area’s world class natural amenities including mountains, valleys, hillsides, lakes, creeks, and rivers, are filled with trails, parks, beaches, and backcountry that support all variety of recreation. Access to hiking, biking, water, snow, and motor sports, and more, is coupled with the Slocan Valley’s relaxed, rural way of life and a welcoming, family-friendly community. There is no shortage of artistic talent and inspiration present in the community where history, creativity, and wildlife abound. Nestled in this beauty is the Office of The Village of New Denver, whose Mayor and Council are seeking to fill the vital role of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

Working closely with Mayor and Council, the Village’s CAO has overall responsibility for managing the constantly changing and increasingly complex day-to-day affairs of the community. The successful candidate will provide leadership to our dedicated staff in all departments, and play a key role in assisting Council in planning and executing a strategic vision that meets the current and future needs of the village. The CAO also fills the role of Corporate Officer and Approving Officer.

Potential candidates must possess a degree, diploma, or certificate in public administration, local government management, or professional accounting designation. They must have a minimum of five years’ experience in a senior municipal role working directly with elected officials, and must be currently residing in and permitted to work in Canada. The successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of Canadian PSAB (Public Service Accounting Board), the Community Charter, and the Local Government Act.

The Village of New Denver CAO will fully understand the challenges facing rural communities and have a demonstrated record of their capabilities as a senior staff member. They will need to be a strategic thinker with great human resource and labour relations skills, demonstrate strong communication skills, and possess sound political judgement. As a catalyst for positive change within the workplace and the community.

Salary range is $90,000 – $105,000, and in addition, New Denver offers a variety of incentives including monthly paid days off, support for professional development, work day flexibility, and promotion of a healthy work/life balance.
