With increased black bear activity in New Denver, the Village is asking residents to keep pumpkins indoors this Halloween, rather than displaying them outside where they may attract bears.

Bear encounters are possible anywhere in New Denver, so please be extra cautious while trick-or-treating, especially at dusk and after dark.

A few tips for a bear-safe Halloween:

• Keep pumpkins indoors.
• Secure garbage, compost, pet food, and other attractants.
• Don’t leave candy or treat bowls unattended outside.
• Trick-or-treat in groups, carry flashlights, and stay alert.
• Keep dogs leashed and never approach a bear.
