The BC Ministry of Environment and Parks has provided an update on what’s happening (work done and work to come) in Valhalla Provincial Park, on the west side of Slocan Lake (across Slocan Lake from New Denver and other Slocan Valley communities). Please note there is a plan to burn (planned ignitions) as part of the clean-up; burns are scheduled to happen late fall or early winter 2025. Smoke will be visible at that time. Advance notice will be provided as made available by the Province.
Ministry Update as of September 2, 2025

WHAT’S HAPPENING:
Following the 2024 wildfires in Valhalla Provincial Park, BC Parks has been working with partners to rehabilitate impacted areas. BC Parks’ focus is currently on phase one of recovery efforts, which includes trails and campgrounds on the southern half of Slocan Lake.
WORK PROGRESS UPDATES:
- In the last month, BC Parks staff and contractors concentrated efforts on the Slocan-Evans Trail corridor, which was significantly impacted by the Mulvey Creek wildfire. Further information on the status of the Slocan-Evans Trail will be available in September.
- To address the debris and fuel loading in the vicinity of Cory’s Ranch, Cove Creek and Sandy Point sites, we are preparing for planned ignitions in late fall or early winter. During this time, smoke may be visible from the Villages of New Denver, Silverton and Slocan, and to motorists travelling along Highway 6. Timing will depend on weather and site conditions, and BC Parks will provide an update ahead of any burning activity.
- As a reminder, the Mulvey Creek and Nemo Creek wildfires have introduced numerous hazards along the Slocan Lakeshore. Wee Sandy Creek, Sharp Creek and Nemo Creek campsites, trails and beaches all remain closed, as well as the Slocan-Evans Trail. Please continue to respect the closures for your safety and the safety of others.
