The local RCMP office has asked the Village to notify the public of a likely cougar kill (deer carcass) east of the village. This kill was sited up the Carpenter Creek river trail and a cougar has recently been sited in the area. This affects the Galena Trail immediately north of the Carpenter Creek Trail as well – east from the trailhead on Denver Siding Road at YRB / highway maintenance yard.
The public is advised to refrain from walking in this area, especially alone, while the carcass is fresh. If you do choose to enter this area, know that you are entering active wildlife territory and act responsibly. Keep your pets leashed and under control. HERE is a link to a WildSafeBC page all about Cougars – be sure to navigate between the tabs under the title, for more information: https://wildsafebc.com/species/cougar/.
The Conservation Officer Service has been notified. If you have any interactions with a cougar (including domestic animals being affected), please report this to the Conservation Officer Service yourself. You can reach them via their 24-hr hotline at 1-877-952-7277 (RAPP).
